Folk culture diffuses through relocation diffusion. Popular culture diffuses via hierarchal diffusion. It will often go to the most connected places first which are usually cities. The communication networks facilitate this and as more countries develop and have access they start seeing popular culture customs through their computers or television sets. It can also diffuse contagiously once it gets to an area.

How sports have been transformed from folk to popular culture

A popular sport like soccer started as a folk sport but ended up being a popular sport. It started in England when two men started playing with a Dane's head. The name of the sport was called "Kick the Dane's Head". Little kids started imitating it but instead of using a Dane's head they used a cows bladder. In 1154 King Henry banned the game but it got unbanned in 1863. From their on football clubs were created also. So was association football. During the 1800s soccer diffused throught Europe. In 1869 Princeton and Rutgers played the first soccer game . In the 1873 college reps met to adopt the sport. Harvord succesfully argued for rugby rules. Colleges did modified these rules , as in this result they created a new game which became known as American Football.
